Pediatrician Salary in USA

A pediatrician is a specialized doctor working with children, from birth through adolescence. The pediatrician may treat injuries, diagnose diseases, perform tests and refer patients to specialists. The salary, training and educational requirements of a pediatrician are very similar to those of a family physician with the only major difference being the age range of the patients.

Average Pediatrician Salary :

New York $163,000/-
Houston $145,0o0/-
Los Angeles $157,000/-
Seattle $148,000/-

Note for FMGs/IMGs: A majority of programs offering a pediatric residency sponsor the J1 visa. Even if you land a H1 visa, it seems that fellowships programs later on are mostly J1-sponsors . But then again, if you are good - programs will want you ...and will sponsor the H-word :-)

Pediatric Rheumatologist Salary in USA

Amongst the primary care medical specialties in the United States, Pediatrics is the lowest paid, while amongst all sub-specialties of pediatrics, the lowest paid title would probably go to pediatric rheumatology...

Besides the fact that child insurance generally pays lower than adult insurance, there are not too many procedures that a pediatric rheumatologist can do (Procedural specialties are better paid by Insurance companies than cognitive or non-procedural ones).

How to Get a Residency?

What factors are most important for residency program directors when choosing applicants for interview? How do they rank applicants? How to get a residency if you are an average graduate or an IMG?

I’ll focus on all these questions in my next blog post series which I’d like to start with this post. In next several paragraphs you will find how to choose residency programs, how to raise your chances to get a residency and how do residency program directors select their applicants for interview.

Let's go!

How Does the Match Works?

The Match process is basically the last step in getting into Residency program. In order to participate in this process, students must first apply to residency programs by the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System) and then interview at the programs from whom they received invitation.

After residency interviews, applicants submit a rank list of residency programs they would like to attend, while programs compse their own rank list of students they would like to accept as new residents. This information is submitted to the AAMC and the Match is done using a computer algorithm. The AAMC is responsible for conducting the Match each year.

5 Tips for Awesome Personal Statement

Why it’s very important to write a good personal statement? Most residency programs use personal statements of applicants when selecting them for interview.
Attractive personal statement can improve your chances of getting a residency interview
even if you have average USMLE scores.

Remember, that personal statement is not just autobiography in free-form. It should describe who you are as a person, because residency committee need to get an idea of who are you.
